What Do Swollen Tonsils After Full Course Of Antibiotic Treatment Indicate?
Question: Hi, I'm a 19 year old femal who was just diagnosed a couple weeks ago with strep throat. I was prescribed amoxicillin and I took the full course. I feel better and no longer have pain but my tonsils are still very large, making it kind of hard to swallow and breathe, as well as there are still some lingering patches about two weeks after treatment. Is there anything I can do to bring my tonsils back to normal??

Swollen tonsils even after full course antibiotics treatment could be due to insufficient dosage of antibiotic or improper duration.
So,kindly let me the dosage and for how many days,you have taken amoxicillin.
Meanwhile,anti-inflammatory drugs (ibuprofen) with serratiopeptidase would be helpful.
Chymoral Forte (Trypsin + Chymotrypsin) is 1 tablet 4 times a day is highly effective drug medicine in the treatment of swelling but you will require prescription from some local doctor.
Also, start warm salt water gargles 3-4 times a day.

Standard dose of amoxicillin 500 mg for strep throat (pharyngitis) is THREE times daily for 10 days,so your antibiotic dosage was not sufficient which is the likely cause of your swollen tonsils even after 2 weeks of treatment.
At present,I would suggest you to take anti-inflammatory drug (ibuprofen) with serratiopeptidase combination twice daily and Chymoral Forte (trypsin + chymotrypsin) is 1 tablet 4 times a day to fix this problem.
Do warm salt water gargles 3-4 times a day.
No need to go for another antibiotic right now since you do not have pain.
From above symptomatic treatment,I would suggest you to wait for 2 or 3 days to subside your symptoms.
If still symptoms persist,it is better to go see an ENT spcecialist who will prescribe you another antibiotic course (amoxicillin with clavulanic acid 625mg or cephalexin 500 mg would be good choice).
