What Do Recurrent Spotting And Bleeding During 5 Weeks Of Pregnancy Indicate?

default
Posted on Fri, 16 Dec 2016
Question: Hi,
I am just 5 weeks pregnant but have had 5 days of light but consistent spotting / bleeding. I assumed a miscarriage but when I did a blood test at 4 weeks and 6 days my hcg had risen to 1165 from 199 at 4 weeks. I am not really enjoying the spotting but have noticed I don't bleed overnight or when I am stationary. What could this be? Is it likely to be an etopic pregnancy?

Brief Answer:
threatened miscarriage

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
thanks for the query to HCM,
ANY BLEEDING DURING PREGNANCY is termed as threatened miscarriage and calls for a transvaginal ultrasound to rule out any retroplacental clot formation. As hcg is rising, pregnancy seems continuing , but you may require to be on progesterone support both injectable and oral tabs and complete bed rest till bleeding stops. please meet your gynecologist soon .
