What Do Rashes On Breast And Neck Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 30 Jul 2014
Question: I've observed some rashes on both of my breasts and also b/w the breasts and the area between breasts and neck. similar rashes are there on my back also. The rashes appeared immediately after the birth of my baby 2+ months ago. They were very prominent earlier but now they are fading of slowly. I have observed that aerola (circular area around nipples) have faded off because of this. and there are rashes on my breast also. Do you think its a skin problem or could be a symptom of breast cancer? Do such changes happen post pregnancy? I'm confused if I should visit an oncologist or a dermatologist? I don't want to ignore it.

Thank you for query. I am Dr Bharatesh D Basti answering your query.
I gave gone through the photos and description.
There are two possibilities
1 Fungal infection
2 Eczema or allergic dermatitis.
Some clarifications needed
Do you have symptoms like itching
Do they appear like ring lesions
Skin is dry or moist
Is it there under breasts
Do the rashes have water like secretion exuding from them
Has moisturisers improved it or powders helped it

Treatment varies in either case.
With distribution it appears fungal infection.

Definetly it is not related to breast cancer. There is no need to panic.
You need to consult dermatologist for proper diagnosis.
You can get back to me with clarifications
I will try to help you.
Thank you
Dr Bharatesh

Hello Doctor,

Thanks for the clarification. Here are the answers to your questions.

Do you have symptoms like itching - Yes, sometimes
Do they appear like ring lesions - No
Skin is dry or moist - Dry
Is it there under breasts - Just under one breast and that too covering just a part of it.
Do the rashes have water like secretion exuding from them - Not at all
Has moisturizers improved it or powders helped it - yes, a bit.

Do you recommend any medicine for the treatment? I'm currently in US and hope the medicine that you will prescribe will be available here.

Also, just another thing I read on the web is "Paget" disease of breast. I'm hoping that its not even Paget disease.
