Question: On Satuday my 71 year old stubborn mother was cleaning the planter boxes in XXXXXXX PA. She finished the yard work, took a shower and felt like a headache was coming on so she went to sleep. She woke up at 3am Sunday to pus/liquid coming down her face from what she belived was a mosquito bite on her head. She rubbed with lemon, cleaned it up and returned to bed. The pus filled blisters formed and continued to drain. Her forehead started to swell up, her nose, her temple as well. We drove back to NY and she cleaned the area again with warm water/tea tree oil. It continued to drain liquid she cleaned it again and applied clotrimazole/betamethasone/dipropionate ointment on it. She took benedryl and went to sleep. When she woke up today Monday, the area stopped drainibg but her face looks like a blowfish. Swollen nose, forehead, temple, under eyes.

Brief Answer:
Kindly upload images and provide more information

Detailed Answer:
hello. thank you for writing to us.

I am Dr. kakkar(dermatologist). I have gone through your query and I have noted your concern

I request you to kindly upload a few images in "Reports section" so that I am able to guide you better. I keep a possibility of either Herpes Zoster(especially if its only on one side of face/ head) Or else it could be a bcterial Skin infection. Does she also has blisters in the scalp? Are the blisters only on one side of the face/ forehead? Is she still in much pain over the affected area?

Regards

The pus filled blisters drained yesterday. There are no blisters on the scalp today. No blisters on face at all. There is no pain at all. Today she has a welt with some pin pricks on her head. Swollen eyes, eyelids, under eyes, forehead, temple, nose.

Brief Answer:
Oral and topical antibiotics

Detailed Answer:
thank you

I suggest a course of an oral antibiotic for a week. e.g either Amoxicillin+Clavulanate 500mg+125mg, Or Cephalexin 500mg, thrice daily for a week.
Topically she may use an antibacterial ointment e.g either Neosporin ointment or Mupirocin ointment, twice daily.

Regards
