Brief Answer:
Looks like inflammatory bowel disease

Detailed Answer:
Hi.... you did not answer about the history of inflammatory bowel disease or celiac disease in the family.

But from what you quote I feel that your son should be worked up for inflammatory bowel disease, especially ulcerative colitis. The ulcers in endoscopy are also suggestive of the same disease. Even though biopsy is normal it should be followed up and at a later stage he might be requiring a second endoscopy and biopsy also.

As of now I suggest you to get a fecal calprotectin test done. If this is positive then it will point out towards the diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease.

Brief Answer:
It depends on response to treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hi....the duration to get better depends on the response to treatment and the disease activity.

But first of all we need to arrive at the diagnosis.
