Posted on Mon, 25 Apr 2016
Question: my wife had gone through HSG test yesterday & after the HSG report,Doctors told that only option we have now is IVF but I am still hoping for natural conceive. Please suggest if any alternate other than IVF.Should we go for operative laparoscopy?
Below is the HSG report:
********************************************
Under IIT(Television) fluoroscopic control the contrast is injected into the uterine cavaity

The uterine cavity is normal in size deviated to the left in position.

No persistent filling defect suspicious for synechiae or fibroides is seen.

Right fallopian tube is visualised till the fimbrial end, shows beaded appearance in the mid & distal segment. No free peritoneal spill is seen.

Left fallopian tube is visualised till the fimbrial end. There is dilatation of the distal segment. There are multiple radiolucent defects in the mid & distal segment of left fallopian tube indicating salpingitis isthmica nodosa.

No free peritoneal spill is seen.

These changes are of infective in etiology with bilateral fimbrial block.

Clinical correlation is recommended.

Brief Answer:
IVF is the best option.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
In HSG, the report suggests bilateral tubal block due to infective cause. This can be opened with the help of surgery but even after surgery, there is possibility of repeat scar formation which can decrease the chances of normal conception.
It is best to get an IVF done and do not further delay the pregnancy as even after the surgical correction there are chances that your wife may need IVF after repeated trials.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Based on past statistics,Please tell me, what are the chances that if we go for tube repair treatment then tubes can start functioning again. Please suggest any natural remedy or medicine that can help.

It is because,Not just from the Baby point of view,I want to go for tube repair treatment but I am afraid that if I don't go for the repair of damaged tubes then in future ,Can it cause any health problem in future for my wife.Basically my concern here is my wife should not have any health issue because of these blocked/damaged tubes.

Can these blocked tubes create problem in IVF procedure as well.

Also I have some confusion about IVF So need Your expert opinion:
1) Is IVF a surgical method? Is it painful procedure?
2) Is it also possible that baby born via IVF can get some health implication or birth defect because of this scientific fertilization procedure?

Brief Answer:
Natural remedy cannot open tubes.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.

Even if you go for repair, the chances of natural conception are not more than 25%.
Any natural remedy or medicine cannot open up the tubes. Rather laparoscopy can detect the cause of blocked tubes like endometriosis or tuberculosis that may need treatment.
If you go for surgery then the tubes may get blocked again after 1-2 years. The blocked tubes do not have any detrimental effect on health except for inability to conceive. However the associated infection needs to be detected and treated after proper investigations.
Blocked tubes do not interfere with IVF process.

IVF also involves laproscopic retrieval of eggs and then the embryo is implanted in uterus. You can call it a key hole procedure. It is painful and done under anesthesia.
No. IVF is unlikely to affect the baby or cause additional malformations in the baby. It is a safe process.

Hope my answer is helpful.
