What Do My CT Scan Test Results Indicate?

Posted on Wed, 11 May 2016
Question: I was having abdominal pain with nausea. I went to the hospital and was kept for a couple of days. They did a CT scan and it showed my appendix was swollen and inflamed. I was sent home. I am still having the pains in that same area off and on with nausea. My CT scan also showed stones in my appendix. I was wondering if they are flare ups that I am getting off and on or is it appendicitis and if it will lead to surgery.

Brief Answer:
appendicitis

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

I am sorry to hear that you are having abdominal pain with nausea. Your CT scan did show swollen appendix with stones. This is consistent with a chronic appendicitis. This will in all likelihood eventually need surgery. If you are still having pain and nausea I would suggest returning to your surgeon and see if they can't proceed with an appendectomy. This type of appendicitis can go on for weeks to months.

If you develop fever with the abdominal pain then you need to be seen ASAP as you could have full acute appendicitis and need emergency surgery.

I do have fevers with the abdominal pain off and on as well but they never get past 99.0.

Brief Answer:
Fever > 101

Detailed Answer:
When you fever gets above 101 then that is when you need to be seen. I have hd other patients with the chronic appendicitis and they all end up having appendectomy anyway. So I would keep telling your doctor surgeon how you are feeling and have it removed.
