What Do Lumps On Thigh Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Feb 2015
Question: Hello i had a lipoma removed 4 weeks ago which was on upper thigh and was 4cm. I have other bumps as well on my other thigh one upper one mid and both small at 1cm. Not really visible yet unlike my big 4cm one. I thought i would be fine with having them on my body but i guess in not, or at least im scared of the word "liposarcoma" which is freaking me out. Do sarcomas grow this small once able to be felt? At least i have read they like the thigh but does that mean small and under skin or usually deep and big by the time you can feel them? I went back to my general practioner and she felt all my bumps five in all... back, thigh, side of arm. She with out a doubt said all fatty lipomas. I guess i need a little more satisfaction on this. My lipomas feel like firm rubber and move i think. Like i said GP said lipoma.

Brief Answer:
not sarcoma

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query.
Lipoma turning to liposarcoma is a very rare thing.
I have seen more than 100 patients with multiple Lipoma since years.
They never developed sarcoma.
You will be happy to know that few of them even regressed over a period of three years.
Sarcoma are fixed and not XXXXXXX like your Lipioma and also it grows very fast.
There is nothing to worry.
Just relax.
You are safe.

When you mean fixed does that mean like to muscle? The two on my thigh move with the fat if I pinch some fat around it. They dont move alot though. I dont have much fat there but enough to pinch around. Seems on top of muscle. They are rubber feeling and more firm like my lipoma they removed. I guess i have always been confused with what does fixed or XXXXXXX really mean? Does it mean if i pinch the fat around it it seems to move as a whole?

Brief Answer:
Lipoma

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Just press the lipoma from one side and if it slips below your finger it is XXXXXXX
Also rubbery suggests lipoma.
You don't need to worry.
Just relax it is not sarcoma.
Thank you

If i grab the ends with my finger and thumb they tend to move a very little. But they arent quite superficial yet because only about 1cm. They dont feel like a rock and dont feel like sponge either. Firm eraser for sure. I know im freaking out but do liposarcomas grow in this way? Small, under skin and firm? Also since i had one lipoma removed does multiple bumps mean they are probably all lipomas or can you have cancerous and benign lumps at one time?

Brief Answer:
lipoma

Detailed Answer:
Hello
I can understand your concern.
Liposarcoma presents with tenderness and redness of skin.
The skin appears rough and depressed.
The tumor is stony hard.
Very soon the skin ulcerates.
Since none of these are there in your case it is just Lipioma.
Relax and feel free to ask any doubt.
Thank you.

How come when i read stuff about liposarcomas and lipomas it states that some can be mistaken for one another? Like both can be soft and slow growing? How many sarcomas in the thigh are just under skin that you have seen? Are most deep in the tissue? Im sure mine is a lipoma like you say but im scared because its mid thigh. My other lipomas are on back, upper leg and arms. Lipomas can grow anywhere though, right?

Brief Answer:
FNAC

Detailed Answer:
Hello
You are correct that Lipoma and liposarcoma appear similar initially but within few months liposarcoma should start growing rapidly.
This is the only way to distinguish clinically.
However an exact diagnosis can only be made by FNAC.
If you are much worried this test can help you in relieving your anxiety.
Please get it done.
Thank you
