What Do Itching And Breaking Of Skin While On Minoxidil Indicate?

Question: Hi
I am using minoxidil 5% solution for last 20 days. My skin is breaking. it's itching as well. I am using Anti dandruff shampoo on alternate days.
please suggest what I should do

Hello. Thank you for writing to us.

I am dr. kakkar (dermatologist).
I have gone through your query and I have noted your concern.
Perhaps you have developed an irritant dermatitis to minoxidil. Minoxidil solution is drying as well as it has an alcohol base.
I suggest you to use Elocon lotion or Momate lotion, twice daily for a week.
Thereafter you may use a different formulation of minoxidil e.g MNX 5% solution. It has a propylene glycol base and is not drying unlike other minoxidil preparations.
