What Do Alternating Diarrhea And Constipation Indicate Despite Taking Pantop And Eldoper Medications?

Question: Hi doctor,
My dad is 57 year old and having a trouble of burning sensation in the stomach. He complains of being weak early in the morning and has diarrhoea or constipation leading to anxiety.
He had similar complains 10 years ago and had all tests like colonoscopy etc done and there were no issues at all. Doctors then confirmed that it could be IBS and diarrhoea and suggested Pantop and Eldoper which did not show much effect. however, these symptoms disappeared within a month.
Now it started again and he has complains everyday. We started using Homeopathy from one month and still has no relief.
Please suggest what could be the actual cause and what tests are to be done? are there treatments to cure it completely?

Brief Answer:
Irritatble bowel syndrome with overlapping gastritis and acid reflux.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear patient,
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query.
Have gone through your details and i appreciate your concerns.
Most likely your dad is suffering from irritable bowel syndrome with overlapping gastritis and reflux disorder. These conditions usually coexist with each other and in long term patients are usually seen overlapping each other.

In IBS there is some problem in the functional ability of the gut that leads to the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. The structure of the intestines is normal, only functional abnormality occurs in this condition. So frankly speaking (IBS) represents a functional disorder of gastrointestinal tract without the presence of an anatomic defect. Therefore most of the tests including colonoscopy etc would always turn up to be normal as there is no problem with intestinal anatomy but only functions are hampered.Different patient presents with different symptoms some have loose motions while others have constipation.Every case of IBS is unique and hence managing it is quiet difficult.
In some patients constant symptoms are present while in others symptoms appears in bouts and then settle down as if they were never there.

Poor management of symptoms are responsible for advant of other similar problems like Gastritis and acid reflux. Increassed production of gastric acid in stomach lining and the interior walls slow or stop altogether the flow of blood in the stomach walls, causing reddening, irritation, acausing severe heart burn pain and reflux of acid.

See what i can find in your history is that anxiety levels of your pups are quiet high and anxiety is a common factor in both IBS and Gastritis.

Treatment suggested-
Take Sporlac tablet thrice a day(probiotic would improve overall digestion).
Take Rablet L Once daily in morning empty stomach(antacid and would prevent reflux and heart burn)
Tab Etizolam 0.5 mg once daily before going to bed(non habit forming anti anxiety drug)-Most important.
We can't cure it but can control it.
Right now no test is suggested. If not relieved at all in 10 days would recommend him to go for endoscopy.
Follow up after 10 days.

Thank you doctor for your response.

I just have few follow up questions regarding the medications. Since he is using Homeopathy at the moment, would it cause any side effects using the suggested medicines?

Also, 3 months ago, he was treated with Oleanz 2.5mg for 10 days to control anxiety which was not helpful. Would Etizolam help in controlling anxiety?

Symptoms like feeling weak or body pains (usually in the mornings after waking up), feeling lazy or not willing to do any work are common in person having IBS?

Brief Answer:
Follow up answer.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Dear friend our body as a whole is an integrated system. All systems are connected to each other in a patient with IBS digestion and absorption of food is effected.Food is the basic source of energy for our body.Nausea, fatigue, lassitude, dizziness, etc can be there because of lack of proper nutrition.Secondly when a person is having issues regarding anxiety all the above mentioned symptoms are seen.So we have to treat the root cause and all secondary problem would settle down by themselves.

Etilozam would be given for minimum of 3 months and if required medications like SSRI would also be added.Anxiety takes time for treatment so have a practaicle approach.Medicines can't plan wander but long term treatment would be helpful.

These medicines can be taken as suggested by me one hour after or before dose of homeopathic medication.

Regards and best wishes.
