What Could Cause Intermittent Dull Ache In The Chest While Shifting Positions In Sleep And Another Chest Pain Episode With Breathlessness?

Question: Hi - I noticed a dull ache in my chest when moving a year or so back but thought nothing of it. Anyway on XXXXXXX holiday towards the last year I returned with a rash either side of my nose and put that down to just a reaction to my sunglasses.

Then, I felt the slight ache in my chest when moving in to certain positions - not normal positions but ones more like in bed where chest faces one way and arms face the other. So silly me starts doing it more often tonfeel the pain.

Then after a night out heavy drinking on New Year’s Eve I had the pain all day with some shortness of breath and was really horrible.

After that day I began to get a dull pain when breathing in, went to docs, they dismissed it as couldn’t find anything wrong with breathing. I’ve then had blood tests all normal.

Over the last few years I’ve had significant neck pain and some twitching around my face muscles and had been seeing a neuro. So I had further blood test and brain mri, all normal. I’ve now just had EMG which the person said looked normal, still waiting to hear back from neuro. I’ve had a tingling in hands for a few years now so they’ve been looking in to that too.

Anyway, over last few months I’ve been drinking a lot more (everyday 4/5 pints of beer and binge on weekend). And had a lot of stress to deal with. I noticed a mont or so ago that my arms were aching just from doing my hair. Didn’t think too much of it. Anyway, we moved house last week and I did some mild lifting and putting together a desk and bed and then bang my arm muscle spasmed and I started shaking. The next day my arms were in aching like I had done a serious work out (I hadn’t) then I got twitching all over body shoulder then arm then leg the back etc. This has lasted all week with some extreme fatigue and feeling faint. I had another blood test and all Normal. I lifted the microwave last night and put it on the floor and both shoulders aches as if I had just done an hour weigh session. I’ve woken with continued twitching. I’m
34 11st and very worried.

I’m off to see doctor and then rheumatologist Monday as my own request. Arthritis runs in my family.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Symptoms that probably are related to stress.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I see that you mentioned different queries in your question so I will give my opinion for all of them.

- Chest pain in younger adults is commonly due to physical activity or stress.
I suggest you to do an electrocardiogram to exlude a cardiac problem and of course to manage stress.I also suggest to avoid smoking and alcohol that can aggravate the symptom.

-I can say the same thing for the shortness of the breath also.
In my clinic in young adults the most common cause is stress and anxiety so dont worry.Try to avoid stress and anxiety.

-Most neck pain is caused by activities that strain the neck mucle. If it is a chronic pain we can relate it even to stress. Some examinations are needed to confirm the cause of the neck pain.So I suggest you to do:
-a physical exam
-an X-ray for further treatment

-The twitching around the the face muscle can be due to a pinched nerve but also due to stress. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without a physical examination in this case.

So,to conclude I think that your symptoms can be related to stress and I strongly recommend stress management in this case.

Hope my answer was helpful.
