What Could Cause Heavy Dark Colored Bleeding During Menstrual Cycle?
Question: Hi, im curious as to what could cause heavy dark colored bleeding during a menstral cycle? When going to go pee and change the tampon dark red pieces or clumps were coming out. I had my tubes tied 7 years ago.

In my opinion the heavy bleeding associated with clots might be due to many causes like:-
1)Thyroid abnormalities.
2)Uterine abnormalities like fibroids endometriosis etc.
3)Dysfunctional uterine bleeding(DUB)-Here
excessive bleeding occurs due to increased estrogen hormone in blood.No visible abnormality is seen .It might be also seen post sterilization.
4)Stress causes hormonal imbalance leading to excess bleeding.
You can take Tab.tranexamic acid 500 mg to decrease the bleeding twice or thrice or four times per day depending on the response .This tablet has sideeffects like gastritis ,headache etc.So take antacids if needed.
Take iron supplements and iron rich food like dates,zaggery,green leafy veggies,figs and liver to prevent anaemia and weakness caused due to bleeding.
I suggest you to consult a gynaecologist as you might need hormonal estimation like thyroid profile and ultrasound to rule out the cause for heavy bleeding.
Nothing to worry about that once cause is ruled out apt treatment will cure the condition.
