Question
I recently had my lipids drawn (65 white female, no heart disease, no hypertension, excellent health). As usual my cholesterol was high (266) as well as LDL (156) but normal trig (86) and as usual good HDL (93). With such a good HDL but high cholesterol and LDL should I be on a statin?

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that based on your blood lipid profile, you are not at any increased cardio-vascular risk.

So, there is no need to take any medication.

I would just recommend follow a healthy lifestyle:

- a healthy diet (Mediterranean diet is recommended)
- avoid smoking contacts
- perform a lot of physical activity
- lose some weight if you are overweight.

I would also recommend checking periodically your blood lipid profile.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask me again!

Best wishes,

Dr. Iliri
