Brief Answer:
Yes, it is possible.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
I have gone through your question and understood your concern.

A slimy mouth is most often the result of low saliva flow or dry mouth.

Here are some of the causes:

1. High blood sugar
2. Salivary gland disease such as Sjogren's syndrome
2. Normal diminution of saliva flow due to age
3. The side effect of some medications that you are taking (you may need to consult with your doctor if your suspect that one of your drugs is the culprit.)
4. Dentures
5. Acid reflux
6. Infection in your mouth or throat

So, my answer for you is: Yes, it can be an underlying infection of your mouth or throat that can cause your problem.

However, I'd suggest consulting your physician for clinical evaluation for the same and treated accordingly. It's extremely important to keep your blood sugar level under control at the same time.

Please let me know if you have further questions or additional concerns.
Regards.
