What Causes White Spots In Stool While On Tylenol?

default
Posted on Fri, 12 Feb 2016
Question: Last week I have had white spots that look like sesame seeds in my stool. I don't have blood in my stool, nor do I have dark urine or pain. I have taken a new vitamin supplement as well as Tylenol pm to help me sleep. Could these pills be the cause of those white spots? Or is there greater cause for concern? Thank you in advance

Brief Answer:
Needs to be evaluated by stool tests.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

White seeds like spots in stools could be as a result of infection or parasite infestations or uncommonly candida growth.

It can also be mucus or undigested food but it is highly unlikely that vitamin or tylenol pm tablets or pills can come out in stool.

However,it might be possible if the pills are coated for extended release or cellulose capsules from which the drug/supplement gets absorbed through intestine expelling the shell of the vitamin in stool.

But it would be better to evaluate it further by some routine tests like routine blood counts,ESR, stool for routine micro with ova/cyst to rule out any of the above possibility.

And generally it is not a greater concern to bother because if there is any infection or parasite found on stool examination,it can be managed with appropriate medications.

Further,I would advise to drink plenty of water and eat more foods with high in fibers (more salads and fruits like papaya, guava).

You may also require de-worming (prophylactic or curative) with anti-helminthic drugs like albendazole 400 mg after blood and stool sample for testing.

But it is better to undergo above mentioned tests first and then consult your GP with all those reports who will prescribe you this tablet if needed.
