Posted on Mon, 9 Feb 2015
Question: I have been having a weird sensation in my upper part of my right leg in the back. I have had 2 surgeries last year 2014. I had surgery on May 12, 2014 on right foot from a fall down the stairs March 20 2014 fragmented my heel and tore ligaments and tendons. then recently had surgery November 14, 2014 for C5-C7 removal and fusion. Took a 5 hour trip to NJ on January 1, 2015 in a car and returned January 4, 2015 again 5 hours. I have had now for several days had a sensation of warmth rushing up in the back and feel like water breaking when you go into labor. I can be sitting or standing when I feel this rush of warmth. Should I be concerned of a possible embolism?

Brief Answer:
Not thrombus formation

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Jyothi BL and I will be answering your query.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:
1. It does not appear to be a thrombus formation.
2. Rush of warmth could be due increased muscle activity.
3. Thrombus formation would present more with pain and dislodgement and thrombosis moving on into lungs would have occurred by now and you would have breathlessness.
4. Too late for thrombus formation as it would have lysed by now.

Not to worry.
Maintain adequate hydration along with muscle stretching.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
