Posted on Wed, 2 Jul 2014
Question: In the last few days, my legs have become very weak and I feel like they can't support me. I'm 71 years old, healthy except I had foot surgery 3 months ago which is pretty much healed. I've fallen twice this week. Should I see my doctor?

Brief Answer:
Topamax can cause such symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
Hello madam,
After reading your answers I believe that following may be the reason of your weakness.
1. Topamax taken for long time can cause drowsiness.
2. It can be a brain issue, as you said that you had fallen also, it means there is loss of coordination.
3. It can be generalise weakness due to low salt, calcium and vitamin B 12.
I would recommend you to show it to doctor and get your clinical checkup. He may change your doses of Topamax. Also you should take glucose and salt in water, it will improve your energy level. You can also take calcium and vitamin d if your doctor allows.
I hope this answer will help you. Let me know if you want to ask any other questions. Thanks and take care.
