What Causes Watery Vaginal Discharge During 5th Month Of Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Thu, 7 Jan 2016
Question: Hello Doctor. My wife is 5 months pregnant. She is complaining of frequent mild watery discharge. Now Doctor has prescribed clindazole vaginal suppositories. I am having a doubt about the usage of these during pregnancy. Are these safe to take during pregnancy.
Secondly she is complaining of abdominal stretches and pulls and sometimes finding it difficult to move out and into the bed. She is fine standing and walking. Doctor has diagnosed that it is due to deficiency of Vitamin D which is 9 only for her as supposed to be 30 atleast.
Please clear my doubt regarding the usage of Clindazole vaginal suppositories because we have to start the treatment from today onwards.

Brief Answer:
clindazole vaginal suppository is safe and recommended

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,
Welcome to HCM,
Your wife can take the clindazole vaginal suppository, they are safe and any concerns should be about taking clindamycin orally, but vaginally it is absolutely safe as it acts locally at the site of infection.
It is recommended that she finishes the course of the clindamycin pessary as vaginal discharge due to infection is sometimes linked to preterm labour. So if she takes the clindamycin and her discharge after the completed course decreases it a good sign.
VitaminD, after 6 weeks of treatment should be rechecked, and further dose given only if there is deficiency.
The abdominal cramps could be due to calcium and vitamin D deficiency and will decrease when calcium and vitamin supplements are given.
Hope this helps.
Regards.
