What Causes Watery Rectal Discharge?
Question: Hello Doctor, my father who is 76 years old experiences the problem of white sticky or watery discharge from his anus quite often. He has been having the problem for about one month now. When the doctor did a CT scan of the intestine and lower areas, he saw no problems except Piles which my father has been suffering from quite some time. The most recent consultation revealed two piles. On the advice of one doctor, he stopped coffee, but he still has the problem. Please tell us what we should do next...What treatment can we give?

Rectal discharge can be caused by a wide variety of reasons ranging from commonest causes like piles,anal fissure etc to less common causes like colorectal cancer,anal cancer,rectal foreign body,ulcerative colitis etc.
Although Prima facie diagnosis of piles as a cause for discharge looks more probable,since CT scan has also come normal,it would be best if patient is evaluated more properly by getting a proctoscopy and colonoscopy done to rule out other problems.
Consult a surgeon and get evaluated properly.
Treatment would depend upon finding the cause.
