What Causes Watering Of Eyes After Nose Injury?

default
Posted on Mon, 15 Dec 2014
Question: I got punched in the nose recently... now when I try to clear my ears, if I blow too hard I also clear the right tear duct. Water and air can be blown out from the corner of my eye. I don't really know what to think; I suppose its harmless but I'm not exactly sure how that bodes for infection and the likes.

Brief Answer:
It requires evaluation to rule out injury.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic.

I am Dr. Dadapeer K, an ophthalmologist and I will be answering your question.
I reviewed your history.
It seems from the history that you are having watering of eyes and blowing out of air from the corner of the eye while the nose following a injury to the nose.

These symptoms suggest injury to lacrimal drainage system and to nasal bone following injury and requires evaluation by clinical examination and radiological investigation like X ray to rule out fracture.
If you have any vision related problems like double vision, restriction in movements of the eye, swelling around the eye...these will further point towards probable injury to the orbit.

Hence I advice you to consult your doctor for further evaluation.
Do write back to me with the examination reports.

Hope the information is helpful to you.

Thank you
With regards
