What Causes Warm Sensation In Upper Thigh Radiating To Hip And Foot?

default
Posted on Thu, 15 Oct 2015
Question: Hi
From about XXXXXXX I've noticed a warm sensation (like warm water) on the upper front part of my right thigh. It has now moved to my left hip and left foot. It happens mostly in the morning and afternoons. The sensation does not last long, only a minute or two, but is happening more frequent. When I googled it, I came upon a forum where the people said it was just a pinched nerve.
At the same time I've been experiencing pains deep inside my left upper thigh, it feels like it is in my bone. It often happens while I'm walking and causes me to limp. It has also woken me up at night. The pain last for a while, 15 minutes or so, but returns soon after. And this could go on for hours.
I've also noticed a lump at the bottom of my spine, to the left. I asked my GP about it and said it was a Lipoma, and that I should only worry about it when it has a name and becomes part of the family(well it has, I call it Matilda and she's a real pain in the back).
I just want to know if all of these symptoms are related and if I should be concerned? Do I need to see a specialist and what kind of a specialist do I need to see? My greatest concern is the pain in my leg.
Regards, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Neurologic evaluation and imaging of spine needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Regarding to description of your symptoms, most probable cause is a pinched nerve at its exit from spinal cord.

Those symptoms are not related to lipoma, it is a subcutaneous ( under the skin ) adipose mass, usually benign in origin and not in proximity or contact with nerves.

Warm sensation on thug is most likely related to autonomic nerves dysfunction. Those nerves travel together with sensory and motor nerves that cause your pain.

Other less possible conditions that may cause your symptoms are nerve masses, spinal cysts.

All these possible conditions should be evaluated clinically by a Neurologist and imaging of your lumbosacral spine (MRI).

Treatment depends on the diagnosis.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Take care.
