What Causes Vomiting And Reduced Appetite In Infant?

default
Posted on Wed, 22 Jul 2015
Question: My 13 month old baby girl woke up vomiting Sunday night at around 1 am and then went back to sleep. She's seemed needy and hasn't had interest on anything except breast milk. She's eaten very little. She just woke up again vomiting but went right back to sleep. Woke up to nurse then back to sleep. She had a very light in color brown stool earlier today. So light I'd even say you could call it grey. Is she just a little sick. Or could there be another issue in which she needs medical attention?

Brief Answer:
She may need to be evaluated by a pediatrician

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

The most likely cause of vomiting in this age is gastritis(due to viral infection) or food allergy.
You have mentioned that the vomiting was on Sunday and then on Monday.
I would like to know if there was no vomiting and whether she was symptom free for last three days.
If she was symptom free that means no vomiting and accepting feeds well and active/playful for last two days I wont get overly worried.
I have one more query, whether there was only change in color of stool or it was watery too.
Again for single altered stool pattern I wont get worried but if the stool is watery with increased frequency I would like to get her evaluated by a pediatrician.
So if the baby is well for last two days and there is only one altered stool pattern you can wait and observe. But if she is lethargic, her oral acceptance is poor I would like to get her evaluated by a pediatrician.
I hope it helps.
Please do ask if you have any more query.
Regards
