Question: Hi My daughter is 9 months old.She vomited Monday night 2 times (6 days back) and we have given emiset and the vomiting stopped and in one hour she had a watery motion. The next day we consulted a doctor he suggested zinc syrup and econorm sachets. The loose motion reduced for a day again it started with mild fever.Today (Saturday) she vomited 2 times immediately after giving milk and passed loose stools 6 times in the past 24 hrs. Could you please suggest a remedy for this.Do we need to go for further tests or any change of medicine is required? Kindly advice.

Brief Answer:
no change required

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Vomiting and loose stools is viral infection usually.
It may take upto a week to settle.
The medicines your doctor has prescribed are appropriate.
I would like to suggest oral rehydration solutions like Ors to be given in sips every few minutes along with your current treatment.
Usually no tests are needed in viral diarrhoea.
But if loose stools do not settle in a week or if your child becomes dull with low urine output you may need to consult your doctor again to assess degree of dehydration.
Ensure your child passes urine atleast six times a day.
Hopefully it will settle down soon.
Wishing your child good health and speedy recovery.
