Question: My mom is 83 years old. Since 1/11/18 she has been in the hospital three times so far. This nightmare began with consisted diarrhea and now vomiting after she eats anything. She has gone through two colonoscopies, a endoscopy, two ultrasounds on the stomach and one chest x ray. Doctors both her medical doctor and stomach doctor have no definite answer why this happening. I m reaching out to a doctor here for possible cause? She does not smoke, drink or has ever done drugs.

Brief Answer:
probiotics , some tests

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concern. I would like:
1.To get her urine complete, blood sugar level, thyroid status and ultrasound abdomen.
2. Stool examination for your mother as there may be some gut infection which is being missed.

I am sure we are missing some thing and with above tests we will find cause.

My advise is:
1. She should take probiotics.
2. She should avoid dairy products, sea foods, fatty foods, fast foods and alcohol etc .

In similar cases , I also recommend to my patients to make a dietary diary to see which food is culprit and then avoid it .

I am sure with this workup she will improve .

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assit you further.

Brief Answer:
yes

Detailed Answer:
Hi again ,

Yes, high salty content in soup may be the culprit and reason for her vomiting .

Was the ultrasound and stool report within normal limits?

Please make the dietary diary to see which food item is culprit and add probiotics to her diet . Avoid all herbal products .

I hope your doctor would have seen the reports and made necessary changes . And it is good that her diarrhea is under control .

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:
curd.

Detailed Answer:
Hi!

Welcome again,

Please see that curd is a good probiotic but she should take it in small quantities as 3 tsp two times a day .

Or

She can take any over the counter probiotics as Pre Pro or Sporlac or whatever is available .

I again recommend making a diet dairy.

Hope I have answered your query.
