Question: Whenever my 40 days old baby drinks breast milk she sleeps and doesn't take burp..
And when I lay her down she vomits or she spits

is it dangerous?
i m too scared to make her lie down after she breast feeds as i feel she might aspirate her milk into lungs while vomiting...
What should I do if my baby does not burp?

Brief Answer:
Upright on your lap for 20 mins essential

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthCareMagic. Congratulations on having a baby. Let me assure you that a baby does not always need to make a burping sound while you make her burp. It so happens that the baby takes in some air along with the feed she takes in. This air eventually comes up and out as burp.

On the other hand, the regurgitation of milk that occurs when you make the child lie down, is indeed a matter of concern and can give rise to aspiration. Please do not make the baby lie down immediately after feeds. Place the child in your lap in upright position for around 20 mins following each feed. That would be enough to make the child burp. You need not hear the burping sound however. It so happends that the gasto-esophageal junction is not strong in children of such an age and hence the milk is able to reflux back into the oesophagus once the baby is in the supine posture (lying down). You have to give the time for the milk to go down and make the child lie down only thereafter. 20 mins is a sufficient time for the same. You need for worry if your child still does not burp. Still, making the baby lie down with the head end raised into a slant, using a pillow or blankets, can help you avoid such regurgitation.

Brief Answer:
Could darken further

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Your baby's complexion, whether dark or fair, is determined by her genes which she has got at the time of conception. Since we necessarily have a combination of genes, it is hard to predict which combination genes the child got from the father and mother. It is common for babies to be born with fairly light and often pinkish skin because the child does not have enough of the natural pigment that determines her skin colour. Skin color can definitely change somewhat over time and darkening may continue well into his first year and even upto the mid-teens. So this is not probably her final skin colour. But trying homemade remedies or other things to lighten the skin will not really help as the colour is genetically determined.

So the baby colour can change

But the colour will only get dark or get light also ?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Diptanshu Das (3 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Skin colour likely to darken some more

Detailed Answer:
Yes, the colour can change. Generally it can become darker or may remain the same, but there is less chance of it becoming lighter. I understand that you are upset with the news. But once again, let me mention that the skin colour is genetically determined and there is not much that can be done anyway.

my baby face has got lot of acne
is it normal?

what can i do about that?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Diptanshu Das (1 minute later)
Brief Answer:
It is normal. Do nothing.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. What you are talking about are not acne but sebaceous collections. These are absolutely normal in newborns and nothing needs to be done about them. You need not worry.
