What Causes Vaginal Pain In Menopausal Women?

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Mar 2015
Question: Went to OBGYN a few days ago - results not back yet. But visually everything looked fine (cervix etc). My problem is that the top of my vagina hurts internally. It aches - not quite stinging. No fever. I am 58 and last period was 20010. There is cancer in my family (mother - endometrial, maternal grandmother - endometrial, maternal aunt - lung cancer / breast cancer; another maternal aunt - colon cancer; another maternal aunt - lung cancer. BRCCA test is not covered by AETNA (last time I checked). Any reason for concern about the discomfort?

Brief Answer:
It's normal in menopausal women

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear and thanks for your query.

Vaginal pain in menopausal women is caused from the reasons as I will mention below:
Dryness of vagina from hormonal changes
Shrinkage of internal part of your vagina
All these changes can cause pain.
Hence presence of internal pain is not a sign of cancer but from changes during menopause.
If you haven't no other symptoms and you have done regular exam be calm and wait for good results.
All the best
