Question: Please help, I am 23 years old female. I have some concerning symptoms. I had unprotected sex nine days before my period came and he did not come inside me and my period lasted four days and was heavy. I found it odd that I had hot flashes two days before my period but passed after first day of my menstruation. After a week and a half since my period ended I have been having vaginal discharge, dizziness, abdominal cramp, pelvic cramps and nausea which passes when I get something to eat and comes back several minutes after or even after two-three hours, and even some hot flashes again. I was wondering is it possible to be pregnant even though I had my period? Please note I did have history of pcos and it was treated after I had birth control pills for one year but stopped them cause of weight gain due to water retention. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
These symptoms are not related to pregnancy

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your query and I understand your concerns about possibility of pregnancy.

Following is my reply:

1. These symptoms you have mentioned vaginal discharge, dizziness, abdominal cramp, pelvic cramps and nausea are not related to pregnancy.

2. Since you had sexual intercourse 9 days before menstrual cycle and you had a menstrual bleeding means there is no chance of pregnancy.

3. These symptoms are possibly due to ovulation that is occurring as you are around ovulation time in present cycle.

4. Therefore I suggest you dont worry about pregnancy as of now.

5. If you wish to put your mind at rest , I suggest you do a home pregnancy test now and check if you are pregnant. Negative pregnancy test will put your mind at ease.

I hope your doubt is clarified. Let me know if you wish any other information.

Regards,
Dr. Soumya
