What Causes Vaginal And Urethral Burning In An Elderly Person With Anxiety?
Question: IAM 54 AND IN MENOPAUSE HAVING VAGINAL AND URETHA BURNING ,UTIS ,BLADDER SENSITIVITY ITHINK OR I DONT KNOW IF ITS DEFERRED PAIN FROM VAGINAL CHANGES DUE TO MENOPAUSE , I ALSO WONDER IF I HAVE SENSITIVITY DUE TO DIFFERENT ANTIBIOTICS FOR TREATMENT FOR UTIS. I HAVE HAD CYSTO TEST, MRI WITH AND WITHOUT CONTRAST, UREATHA DIALATIONS, ALL TEST WERE NORMAL,I HAVE VERY HIGH ANXIETY , GYNO SAID I HAVE VAGIANL ATROPHY BUT CREAMS BURN ME UP AND MAKE MY UTERUS AND BLADDER ACT UP. I NOW HAVE BORDERLINE HBP I DONT KNOW IF ITS DUE TO HIGH ANXIETY, MENOPAUSE, OR FLOVENT INHALER AND FLONASE,AND NETIPOT SALINE RINSES. PLEASE GIVE ME ANSWERS. I have gone through your history and have understood your problem. I do empathise your sufferings.
xxxxxxxx, your all genital organs have undergone atrophy due to menopause, no doubt. Oestrogen cream should give you relief; however, you are getting irritation of those creams. Major atrophy of vagina changes the vaginal pH and makes it more irritable.
I would advise you to use Lactobacilli vaginal pessaries which will make your vagina more healthy and less irritable. You may try Lactycid also. It is very useful. Then apply Oestrogen cream prescribed to you. Moreover, you have undergone antibiotics courses for many times. This can cause fungal infection of vagina, particularly at this phase of life, and cause irritation.
Has your vaginal smear been examined for fungus? If so, please upload the report; and if not please get it done. Lactobacilli can take care of fungal infection also.
Since you are getting relief after Pyridium tablets, the pathology seems to be in the urinary system. Pyridium is urinary pain killer. Please get your urine examined. May be you are having crystals in the urine. Many a times changed pH of urine also causes irritation of vulva. The irritation in the base of the urinary bladder is felt at the tip of urethra at the end of urination. As you have very rightly suggested, the urinary burning can be misread as vaginal irritation.
I would appreciate if you upload all your previous reports, images, etc. After getting your urine routine examination, please upload that report for my review. Till that, continue on Pyridium and try Lactobacilli pessaries, Lactycid.

It contains Lactic Acid, Sea Buckthorn Oil and Tea Tree oil. If this product is not available in US, you may go for any other alternative product available to you having this combination.
2. You are taking probiotics. Good. However, the lactobacilli in them are available for intestinal tract. They do not get absorbed systemically. Lactobacilli pessaries are a better opion. Lactobacilli in the vagina maintain the milieu interni of the vagina healthy and non-irritant.
3. It is good that your urine examination has not detected any abnormal finding. However, if you are getting relief with Pyridium, you may continue it for symptomatic relief. Also, please drink plenty of water.
4. Blood pressure 130/91 at this age is within normal limits.
