What Causes Urticaria?

Question: I am atopic, igE is elevated with mamh environmental allergies such as dust mites, tree pollen, pets dundar, amd weeds, but only urticaria on my skin. No runny nose except i wqs exposed to a lot of dust. Is that possible my on going urticaria was onlu from dust mites? I recently had skin biopsy with mu dermatologist, the resut is not back yet. Can anyone explaine what is possiblity of my problem? My urticaria was suddenly stwrted in Dec. 2013. I work over nights in carpted assisted living facility and I had urticaria 7 weeks straight. My home is hardwood floor, I have no hives when I don't work, but lately I developped breqthing difficulites during my work shift, following with headache and nausea.

Brief Answer: Allergist opinion, immune desensitization needed Detailed Answer: Hi and thanks for the query, The allergic response you present with could have diverse allergens (substances that could stimulate the allergic response). It is possible however that the urticaria could be due to dust mites, but I am afraid difficult in this context to conclude if this would be exclusively due to dust mites. An environmental and exposure assessment still requires to be done by your allergist. Any history of recent travel, change of usual environment or activity could explain this unusual response. This depends however on an in depth environmental exposure exposure assessment. The stage of allergic response you present with might be difficult to manage exclusively through proper environmental hygiene and avoidance of possible trigger factors (allergens). You for sure present with a very sensitive immune system (hypersensitive state). The most effective thing to do at this point is to associate these hygienic measures in avoiding possible allergens, good cleaning of living atmosphere to what is called immune desensitization protocol. This shall for sure involve using drugs, generally immune depressors to reduce excessive reaction of the body to these allergens. Your allergist shall be most useful in assessing your needs and dosage. This procedure however requires a proper follow up . I strongly suggest you seek a consultation with an allergist. Simple Anti histaminic drugs could be helpful as you wait to see an allergist. Kind regards. Dr Bain
