What Causes Upper Abdominal Pain After Eating?

default
Posted on Wed, 8 Jun 2016
Question: Having pain in upper abdomen after eating and sometimes longer. I get some relieve with small bowel movements, but it feels like sore like your muscles do after working out, but I haven't been working out. Constant dull pain, gets worse after eating and in mornings. Have had a colonoscopy, nothing found, had the tube run down my throat, found small hernia, but dr said nothing to worry about. Also had esphogus expanded as I have trouble swallowing sometimes, that helped that situation for while, but now back like it was. These test were done approx 3-4 years ago

Brief Answer:
Investigations are needed as well as an opinion of a General Surgeon.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Female/48 - tests done 3-4 years ago - normal colonoscopy - had esophagus expanded as had trouble swallowing something - tube run down the throat showed small hernia other wise nothing to worry as was said by the Doctor - pain in upper abdomen after eating and something longer - some relief with small bowel movements - sore like one gets after working out - constant dull pain - gets worse after eating and in the morning ....
Your history is indicative of having some problems most probably at the small bowel with or without gastritis related problems.
I would advise you the following:
First of all to have barium studies for esophagus, stomach and small and large intestines.
Upper GI Endoscopy again ASAP.
Ultrasonography of the abdomen and CT scan if there are any findings in the Ultrasound.
All these investigations along with clinical evaluation and further management will help you to get a proper diagnosis and a plan for treatment.
