What Causes Twitching Of Eyelid And Swelling After Wearing Mascara?
Question: Hi! I am having an allergic reaction to a new mascara I used. This happened to me once before roughly 15 years ago. My bottom eye lids itch, and are swollen. The top lids are slightly swollen. The lower lids are a little reddish and it extends down to the occipital bone area. I have been taking Benedryl over the counter x 4. it helps the itching but the swelling and reddish color is continuing. When this happened previously, I was given a script for a steroid drop 2-3 times per day. Please note that the steroid drop did not contain sulfa as I am allergic to sulfa.

It is definitely allergic reaction to the mascara.
Better to avoid it in future.
At present you need oral as well as local applicant cream.
Oral drugs like combination of anti allergic and anti histamine should be started.
Local cream containing steroid is also needed to reduce redness and swelling.
Since all these drugs are prescribed drugs,you need to consult dermatologist and discuss all these.
