What Causes Trouble In Moving Bowels?

default
Posted on Tue, 30 Sep 2014
Question: I'm having trouble moving my bowels. I often feel like I have to go when I can't. With stool softeners I've had at least one movement a day, but it feels like I haven't finished. The sensation is like an obstruction. Is it just constipation? I recently started a gluten-free diet, and it's not as easy to get a lot of fiber - could that be the cause?

Brief Answer:
the decrease fiber is the cause

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is likely the reduction of fiber that has caused the constipation.

The following may help you to regain some of this fiber:

(1)Try a fiber supplement. This should help replace some of your fiber.
Fiber supplements with psyllium are low in gluten
An example would be metamucil

(2)use beans and legumes. These would also aid in bowel movements and would not adversely affect your gluten levels

(3)use seeds- flax seeds, chia seeds. These can be added to your meals to boost fiber content and also have additional beneficial effects

(4)use a snack such as popcorn which is fiber and whole grain

You should not use the stool softener too often because it can affect bowel function.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
