Brief Answer:
No relation between these complaints and CAD

Detailed Answer:
Greetings and welcome to HCM. I understand your concern and thank you for your question.

Well, there is no relation between the symptoms you provided and coronary artery disease, especially when you add your very young age to the scenario. There would be no relation whatsoever even if you were, let us say, 65 years old, but we would order some tests and look into it more carefully in a person with that age. Coronary artery disease is manifested with other symptoms, the main one being a severe tightness in the chest which hase its own properties of how it starts, how it stops, where does it radiate etc.

This, in my opinion, is anxiety/fear which triggers panic attacks. While stressed, both physically and, especially, psychologically, there is excess adrenalin in the circulation, which, among others, produces rapid heart rate and more pounding heart beats. I would recommend you to see a psychiatrist, so these panic attacks could be properly addressed, treated or prevented, either with psychotherapy or with medication, or both.

I hope to have been of help. I am happy to help, if you have follow-up questions.

Kind regards,
Dr. Meriton

I do have fallow up questions but it's in regards to the flu. I've been diganosied with influenza and had it for 6 days no. Fever has calm down from first few days which it was at 102.5 now 99.4 but the symptoms I'm going through now is horriable muscle weakness everywhere espically when I try to move or pass stool or exert energy. I also have a weird feeling in my chest over my heart when I try to cough and it burns. I also had to go to er two nights ago because my vision was being distorted it got better in two hours and they don't know why but I was disorite and vision disturbances.

So my questions are,

Is my muscle weakness a little to seveare for influenza?

Is the pain over my chest and heart a sign of a heart infection? Espically with the muscle weakness or could this also be psychologically made worse?

Also how long can this muscle weakness and fatigue last? Espically in the chest area. I also get a weakness in my chest over my heart when I cough is this normal for influenza? Also does influenza predouce any psychological or central neverous system symptoms

Brief Answer:
Probably influenza signs and symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Greetings and welcome back.

Yes, this is probably because of influenza. I was regarding to your heart concerns as follow-up, but no worries, I will also address your additional concerns. Muscle weakness, general malaise, cough and burning sensation during cough (due to flu, caused by a virus that affects upper airway) are all symptoms of general flu which usually persist for three to seven days. Bed rest and drinking hot beverages should "do the trick". I am confident that these are not symptoms related to any heart condition. Hope you are already better now.

I hope I have been of help. Please close the discussion and rate the answer if you do not have follow-up questions.

Hello the flu is gone and I have an appointment with a cardiolgist tommarow and I'm hoping that they will order a ct angiogram. I lose so much sleep over worrying about my arteries and all my chest pain. I hope I can convince her to order a ct angiogram just to put my mind at rest.

I do get a lot of chest pain and shortness of breath during exerscise and emotional distress

Brief Answer:
Panic attacks; need to consult a psychiatrist

Detailed Answer:
Greetings again.

As we discussed in the original answer, I do not think that there is a need for further investigation regarding the cardiac part, regardless of what you may have read or seen. However, if the cardiologist sees this as reasonable, then carry out a angio computed tomography. If I were your doctor, I would conclude that there is no need for this test. I would, however, recommend you to see a clinical psychologist or a psychiatrist, to further determine the stress episodes and panic attacks, and proper treatment should be installed.

Hope this information helps.

Kind regards,
Dr. Meriton
