What Causes Tingling Sensation In Legs While Sitting?

default
Posted on Thu, 30 Apr 2015
Question: So many unanswered questions. What would cause legs to tingle/burn while sitting on tailbone? Had EMG and L4, L5, S1 showed abnormalities but I wasn't told what to do about it. Communication lacking between doctors has gotten me in rough shape.

Brief Answer:
MRI Lumbo-sacral spine to be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

I have read through your previous queries and in fact answered one of the queries yesterday which was later transferred to spine surgeon.

Obviously,it is of great concern that you have landed in these complications after your colorectal and hernia surgery.
What could have happened is damage to a proximal nerve(possibly sciatic nerve) or L4-L5-S1 radicles damage.Infact, these complications are not unusual after these surgeries and I see atleast a score of patients annually with these complications after abdomino-pelvic surgeries.

Meanwhile,to establish the diagnosis,I want to see your Nerve conduction studies(NCS) and electromyography(EMG) reports.

Further,it is mandatory to get a MRI lumbo-sacral spine done. Please follow up with relevant investigations.

For presumptive management, please start taking pregabalin 75 mg once a day and methylcobalamin 1500 mcg once a day.For tingling and burning symptoms, additionaly, please take amitriptyline 10 mg once a day at bedtime.

However,PLEASE TAKE MEDICINES UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF A PHYSICIAN ONLY.

Hope that I have answered your query. If you have any further queries,I shall be glad to answer else, please close the thread-rate it and write a review as your rating will be of help to me.

Brief Answer:
NCS-EMG s/o L4-L5 radiculopathy.Please get MRI L-S spine done.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up.

So,as presumed, your NCS-EMG report suggests L4-L5 radiculopathy, more on right side.Do your symptoms correlate with it or are your symptoms more on right side as well? If Yes,this is the cause of your symptoms.

However,MRI Lumbo-sacral (L-S) spine should be done to further delineate the pathology. Please follow up with MRI L-S spine.

Meanwhile, please start taking the medicines as discussed above.More importantly, please meet a physiotherapist and take spine exercises lessons from him. Exercises like Mzkenzie spinal extension exercises, if done strictly on a regular basis can be of great help.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have some further questions,I shall be glad to answer else, please close the thread-rate it and write a review as your rating will be of help to me.

Regards
Dr.Ajay Panwar,
MD,DM(Neurology)
