Question: I am a 46 yr old female, had pain in my right arm pit which I thought was just lymph nodes swelling. But primary sent me to a surgeon group to get it checked jic. I was diagnosed with extensive blood clots in right arm by regular & vascular sonograms and have been on Xarelto 15mg every 12 hrs for 2 weeks now(will go down to 20mg once a day after 20 days with a follow up sonogram July 1st.) I am calling the dr tomorrow because I have been feeling tingly like I inhaled too much oxygen. But I have noticed that all blood thinner meds have this warning about a tingling sensation. Why is this a side affect and what causes it?

Brief Answer:
Because of recanalization of vessel

Detailed Answer:
Greetings
Welcome to Health care Magic

Hi,

Do note that the anti coagulants used as the treatment act by lysing the clots in the vessel. Following which thrombsed vessels slowly starts getting recanalized. The nerves start receiving blood supply and start repairing themselves. This is when the tingling sensation is felt by the patients. This should not be a concern as these symptoms are felt during recovery phase of vessel and vessel wall.

Lidocaine and prilocaine are topical numbing creams that offer only temporary relief from tingling sensation and can be safely used.

Do get back to me for additional information. Would be glad to assist you.

Take care.
