What Causes Tingling On Tongue And Numbness In Mouth After Taking Amoxicillin?

Question: I am on amoxicillin for a root canal procedure: 500 mg 3 times a day for 7 days. After taking the pills for 3.5 days (10 pills so far) I had a tingling tongue, with sensation of numbness in my mouth a couple hours after taking the 10th dose. Could the tingling/numbness be a delayed allergic reaction to the Amoxicillin? If I was allergic to Amoxicillin, could I take it for 3 days without any allergic reaction and then react?

Not likely to be amoxicilin allergy

Hi and welcome.
Tongue numbness is reported side effect of amoxicillinum but it is not likley to occur after 3-4 days so you should rule out other possible medications,food or alergens and then consider amoxil allergy. I suggest to continue antibiotic but consult your doctor about it. tongue numbness can be caused by lack of vitamin B or iron. Wish you good health. Regards

Thanks for your reply. I should have added before that fact that I have taken Amoxicillin many times over the years without any kind of adverse reaction. Would it be possible for this medication to all of a sudden cause an allergic reaction?
