What Causes Tingling/burning Senstaion In Stomach?

default
Posted on Tue, 27 May 2014
Question: I have had gerd for over a year and am taking dexilant. That has stopped the burning in my chest but am noticing lately a sort of tingling/burning in my stomach. I'm afraid it could be some sort of gastric cancer as a worst case.....I am not vomitting or getting blood in stools but I do get sort of bloated after meals and burps and such. I am a 40 year old female. I will see my doc on the 4th of XXXXXXX for my physical but feel a little scared.

Brief Answer:
unlikely

Detailed Answer:
it is highly unlikely that you have gastric cancer, however if you have not had an endoscopy you can't be completely sure.
Bloating and burping can be due to multiple issues, and can actually be related to long term use of dexilant (or similar medications), as these suppress the acid and therefore also let bacteria go through your stomach and then into your intestines, and you can get what is called "bacterial overgrowth" which can cause bloating and burping.
Regarding the gastric cancer, you can certainly qualify to get an endoscopy to rule it out. it would be more likely if you have family history of gastric cancer, anemia, getting full quickly after eating, vomiting blood, etc. Ask your primary care to refer you to a gastroenterologist for an endoscopy.
hope that helps
