Brief Answer: The need for surgery depends on symptoms Detailed Answer: Hi, The changes that your MRI scan has demonstrated in your cervical and lumbar spine may have existed before your motor vehicle collision. many people would have such changes on an MRI of there spine. The most important step is to interpret the MRI findings in conjunction with the symptoms that you are experiencing in your spine and upper and lower limbs. Could you tell me more about the symptoms that you have following your accident? Best wishes

After the accident I immediately experienced a tingling and numbness in my right leg. Started getting spasms in my neck mid and lower back..I took therapy for two months. I sleep with a heating pad most nights and use my TNS unit. I am con earned because I have never been in an accident of this caliber before and wonder how I. Would have had thiis issue before hand? Does it come with getting old?

Brief Answer: The normal aging process. Whiplash Detailed Answer: hi, yes the MRI findings could be explained by the normal aging process. the symptoms in your right leg are not explained by your MRI findings. your doctor may want to look for another explanation for these symptoms. the symptoms that you have in your back are consistent with a whiplash injury typical following this sort of accident. they should improve with Physio, massage and antiinflammatory medication but they may take a number of months to get completely better. best wishes
