Question: Hello Doctor,

I am aged 32 years. I am suffering past 1-week from throat pain, greenish Phelgm which is sticky, thread like and comes out from mouth with lot of push from my side and this is very sticky phelgm, when I am sleeping I get the loud wheezing sound and it can be heard by others also due to which I am unable to sleep, i am also getting body pain sometimes and having blocked nose. This started after I got bit drenched in rain post which these symptoms started.
One local doctor who is my relative asked me to take Relent syrup and Azithromycin antibiotics to be taken for 3-days. After taking relent and Azithromycin, I am getting severe dryness in throat and sometimes continuous cough and the mucus is still not coming out completely, sometimes phelgm comes out and sometimes even if I try hard, it is stuck in lungs
Doctor please advise, what is this condition, why it happened? Which medications should I take?

Brief Answer:
Seems to be acute sinusitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having phlegm since 1 week. I would like to ask you few more details.

Is there any breathlessness or fever ?

Kindly get back to me with the details.

As per your clinical details, it appears s to be acute sinusitis secondary to chest infection.

I suggest you to continue same tab. ambcet once daily, tab. augmentin 625 mg thrice daily ( it's a prescription drug and need prescription from a local doctor) and Tab. Tylenol 500 mg twice daily ( over the counter). in the mean time continue steam inhalation.

Breathlessness with wheeze needs bronchodilators and oxygen.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.

Hello Doctor,

Already I am taking antibiotics- Azithromycin, on top of that are you prescribing me one more antibiotic- Augumentin 625? Please confirm?

I have breathlessness sometimes but not all the time, specially it increases during night time and when sleeping wheezing increases and I have to get up and take out the phelgm to get relief. I had feverish feeling earlier but after taking azithromycin it has reduced but there are other side effects like loose motion.

Please let me know should I take ambcet and Tylenol in addition to Azithromycin? If yes why is it prescribed for?

Please advice

Brief Answer:
Augmentin (antibiotic).

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

1. Yes. I am suggesting you to start (antibiotic) augmentin 625 mg ( azeethromycin is not working on you).

2. Breathlessness with phlegm requires bronchodilators with steroid.

4. Ambcet ( is a mucolytic) Tylenol ( analgesic with anti inflammatory) helps in thick sinus secretions.

5. I would recommend you to start these medications for couple of days. In case of persistence, needs few investigations ( X-Ray chest and blood tests).

All the best. Take care.
