What Causes Thick Cervical Mucus After Taking Progesterone?

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Jul 2015
Question: 4-5 weeks ago I had unprotected sex. I've now been on progestin-only pills for almost 4 weeks. I now have brown spotting and thick, clumpy fluid inside my vagina (little to no discharge). No itching/burning, mild discomfort. STD panel came back negative 2 days ago for chlamydia, gonorrhea, BV, trich and yeast. Negative for pregnancy. Could my issue be the result of the pill thickening my cervical mucus? Should I trust the negative results?

Brief Answer:
Progesterone pill effect

Detailed Answer:
Hello mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
I understand your health concerns.
This is not pregnancy or STD and is rather just a milder form of periods only.
It is common to have this irregular but mild spotting in women taking progesterone only pills so per se nothing to worry.
But in general it is not a preferred method of contraception except in lactational period.
So in case possible you should better shift to combined oral pills which are good and have better cycle control.
Take care

Even with the thick cottage cheese like fluid inside my vagina? I find it on tampons, but it doesn't discharge,

Brief Answer:
Infection only

Detailed Answer:
Yes dear this is infection only due to first sexual encounter.
And as you just stated that there is Curdy discharge on tampon too then put clotrimazole vaginal pessary inside vagina for 6 days regularly. In case discharge still persists beyond 3 days despite treatment then visit your gynecologist.
