Question: Hi
I am a 25 year old male. I had sexual intercourse with my girlfriend the other day and I noticed the foreskin of my penis has swollen. It does not hurt but it has swollen. I have no problems in urinating. The swelling on one side has reduced and I notice dry skin falling off but then other side the swelling is still there and its been five days now.

Brief Answer:
I do not think it is STD

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I reviewed your query and understand your concern of contracting some serious sexually transmitted diseases.

If you have the swollen skin from the first day it is most likely abrasion due to hitting wrongly while having intercourse.

No sexually transmitted diseases starts manifesting from the first day of sex and they take time varying from days to years but mostly weeks.

Since it is healing (half part healed already) it is better to wait for few more days. At this stage try to keep the area clean and use some local antibiotic available over the counter so any secondary infection can be prevented.

I hope this helps you.

Thanks for the reply. I found a deep cut on the fore skin just behind the head of the penis which is being covered by the swollen skin. Is the swelling because of that cut??

Brief Answer:
That is most plausible explaination

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for reverting back to me.

Since there is deep cut it causes inflammation of surrounding tissue leading to swelling.
The five days history, healing and presence of deep cut again point to the abrasion (superficial injury).

Considering all these facts it becomes more important to prevent secondary infections as suggested earlier.

If you do not feel relief within two to three days of local antibiotic use it will be better to get examined from the physician in your city.

Wish you good health.
Thanks and regards

I will do as you have told..I had one more question. The abrasion is actually located behind the swollen skin. So was actually confused whether the swelling was because of the abrasion. I have already taken a course of anti biotics orally which I forgot to mention earlier. Please clarify my above query.

Brief Answer:
You need to take full course of appropriate antibiotic

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for sending required details.

I have reviewed pictures and of the opinion there is need to take oral antibiotics for the duration of five days.

I do not know which antibiotic you taken but in soft tissue infections antibiotic from cephalosporin (cefixime, cefuroxime axetil etc) group is recommended.

Since all antibiotics are prescription only it is advisable to visit a physician for prescription.

Thanks and regards
