What Causes Temporary Blindness In Diabetics?

default
Posted on Tue, 23 Sep 2014
Question: I was just diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. I have been eating right (which is hard but I starting to get use to it) .... it has not been a full week yet.... I got a meter the 2nd or 3rd day after and the first time I used it read 381. I am taking 500 Mg of Metformin HCL and have been walking about 2 miles a day up a steap trail. Last week I weighed 224... I weigh 217 now... I a 54 year old male. My meter reading have been dropping everday and I have went from 381 to 204... I was disappointed this when I checked today... it has went back up to 220.

But here is the weird part. Yesterday I noticed that I could not see out of my eyeglasses... but my eyesight has IMPROVED dramactically... I am almost 20/20.... What's up with that?

Brief Answer:
You are doing good!

Detailed Answer:

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this new diagnosis of diabetes. It is difficult to accept and integrate all the changes that come with this and its management. However, I must admit you have done a great job already. Seeing the trend of your blood sugars and all the different measures(diet and exercises) adopted to control this tells me you are on the right path to victory over diabetes.

Should you be disappointed about a value of 220 from 204? absolutely NOT. What about 220 and 381? That is the overall trend. It is never a smooth downward trend but an over all downward trend with some spikes during the process. It sickens me to see you feel disappointed when you should be celebrating your progress. be positive about yourself and take pride in your accomplishments.

As for your vision, I cannot tell what happened. But, rapid fluctuation in blood sugars may explain that. I will suggest you stay vigilant to see if you would observe such n abnormality again. Should you, only then would I want to consider digging further as there is no clear reason to get concerned at this time.

I hope this helps. I wish you well and thank you so much for using our services. Feel free to ask for clarifications and more information if need be. I would always be here to address your immediate concerns. You would never walk alone on this journey to defeat diabetes...unless you walk away from me.
