What Causes Swollen Lymph Nodes In Neck?

default
Posted on Mon, 28 Jul 2014
Question: I get swollen lymph nodes that randomly show up in my neck/throat and head/base of skull that usually are very tender. I don't ever have a cold or flu when they show up and they go away within a week. This has been happening over the past year on and off. I am a 23 yr old female, 5'8". 135lbs. Nothing in my medical history other than seasonal allergies. Thanks for your help!

Brief Answer:
Allergic

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thank you for your query and more importantly the classical history which I was thinking when I started reading your query, and you only gave me the answer.

There is a clinical observation, that many patients who have the similar history as is yours tell about the enlargement of the lymph nodes and the salivary glands too. And they have a specific history of enlargement during attack of sneezing and sore-throat.

This may be due to eosinophilic infiltration and reaction that goes away the moment the body takes care of the allergy.

So nothing to worry, keep your allergies down and the problem will be solved.
Take antihistamine and steroids whenever necessary and you ill be fine.

Just to be on a safer side:
Undergo all the relevant blood tests and FNAC of the most enlarged Lymph node next time. This is just to make sure ( rule-out as we say) any serious problem .
