What Causes Swollen Lymph Node Behind Right Ear?
Question: My daughter had tubes.. still has the right one but it's on its way out. The lymph node behind her right ear is swollen. She has been suffering with some pretty severe allergies already. She says it hurts when I go to feel it. I have been giving her benedryl + congestion at bed time. Similassin allergy sinus relief during the day. She is eating and drinking fine. I'm just trying to figure out what would cause this to swell. If the tube coming out might have something to do with that. I was given antibiotic ear drops as a precautionary since her pediatrician flushed her ears a few times to help get some crusted old wax out of the way. Is there anything else I can do to help get rid of thr swelling or at least make it more tolerable for her?
Brief Answer:
Grommets might were blocked
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
If there is sign of swelling behind the ear it means secretions are piled up inside the middle ear cavity. Since your daughter has history of allergies and is more yield to infections there is more serous / pus discharge that could be piling up.
It is important to note that if the swelling is increasing and your daughter is painful it denotes serious infection. The cavity is unable to absorb the extra discharge and is thus piling up.
It needs immediate addressal by an ENT surgeon and not by the regular pediatrician. I suggest a quick referral to ENT surgeon.
