Question: Pretty sure I have the flu, but I received the flu shot in September or October and it is now the end of May.
Symptoms: fever Tmax 103 currently 99.3-100F. Onset Friday 5pm sneezed and had irritated throat. Fever accompanied by shaking chills, slight vertigo. Fatigue, weakness, no appetite, headache, runny nose, dry non-productive cough, wheezing and sometimes rhonchi in lungs that clear with much effort and coughing and lots of albuterol. Taking acetaminophen and ibuprofen round the clock for fever and muscle and joint aches. Taking cetirizine and pseudoephedrine hcl round the clock for runny nose and congestion, humidifier, pushing 4-5L/day fluids, getting as much rest as I can with hacking cough, dextromethorphan/guaifenesin for that now. New development swollen, mostly nontender fixed lymph node posterior cervical chain on right side. this is now 48 hours with these symptoms.

Brief Answer:
Flu Vaccin prevent severe flu and not all flu!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms that you have reported. For real, they are very suggestive of a flu infection. The swollen lymph node might have created some fear within you but it is understandable to have swollen lymph glands around the neck when you have an infection in the head and neck regions. This happens because the lymph nodes in an attempt to control the infection increase in size and become painful. This has nothing to do with cancer as nodes related to cancer are painless and grow steadily over time.

For now, you are doing the right things. It takes averagely 4-5days to notice a marked improvement in symptoms. I will suggest that you continue with these measures. You would soon be feeling a lot better.

In all, they are suggestive of a flu. Your actions are right. Continue and you would soon be feeling a lot better.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
