What Causes Swollen Lips And Nose?

default
Posted on Sat, 3 Oct 2015
Question: Swollen lips and nose are my symptoms Lead upI am recently getting over being sick in bed for 3 days with fever up to 103. Minute clinic said both the strep and flu tests came back negative. Today I finally got my appetite back and took my kids to outdoor soccer practice. Earlier to appease that appetite went to Qdoba and had their Mexican gumbo with chicken. Not sure if I should try to relate this to allergies (food or being outdoors in the mid Atlantic) or relate this to me being sick since Friday evening. I did have swollen glands in my neck up through this morning. Still tender.

Took some Benadryl at 8:45pm EST. Lips and nose still swollen.

Brief Answer:
It could be a sign of anaphylaxis. May need to go to the ER.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

The fever and sickness could be due to a viral infection and can be managed with paracetamol/acetaminophen. But the allergies concern me. It could be due to a number of things and the trigger might be identified only by careful observation from your side. You have done the right thing by taking Benadryl. You could also have taken cetirizine (available OTC). The swelling is not likely to subside immediately but what is more concerning is if such swelling affects the larynx or the opening of the airway. Life risk could occur in such a case. Hence if the allergies show any sign of increase of the swelling or allergy, be sure to visit the ER without delay as adrenaline shot might be required.

Hope that helps.
