What Causes Swollen Gland Under The Jaw?
Question: Hi,
I have a swollen gland under my jaw, right side between chin and ear area. It is one that swells occasionally then goes down, this time tho it is making in uncomfortable to swallow but I only feel it in the upper right throat. I am also experiencing ear flutters in the right ear. I'm on the verge of a slight earache but it has not escalated in the last 24 hours. Just slight discomfort in the ear.
I don't have tonsils anymore. I have had a tremendous amount of stress losing my brother to cancer that I am decompressing from, it has affected my neck muscles and jaw. I recently had a chiro adjustment on my jaw and neck. Could this be purging of all that I have held in, with the chiropractic adjustment allowing things to flow?
I called to get in with a dr, new insurance tho has me on a wait list for who knows how long. Is there anything I can do now to help this? What should I be concerned with?

1. Swollen gland below the jaw could be an inflamed lymph node. Lymph nodes get enlarged when there is an ongoing infection in the surrounding region. Do not worry; this seems to be a harmless swelling. You will require a course of broad spectrum antibiotic to take care of this swelling.
2. Swollen gland is not related to the physiotherapy
3. The earache could be due to the pain referred from the inflamed gland.
4. The ear flutter is commonly seen when there is either blockage of the Eustachian tube (the tube connecting nose and the ear) or accumulation of ear wax. Simple steam inhalation will relieve this problem.
My suggestions to you are:
1. To consult your doctor for a thorough evaluation of the ear, nose, throat and the neck.
2. Drink plenty of warm water
3. Till you consult your doctor you can take OTC pain relievers.

Thank you for the info. I did just finish a round of broad spectrum anti biotic for a uti bladder infection, Monday was the completion of this medication. Would this have helped my swollen gland at all or just the uti. The medication I took was nitrofurantoin I believe. I don't have it on me.
Is there a concern for me and a tooth possibly being an issue? I've never had a cavity so I'm not sure.

I dont think so Nitrafurantoin will be able to tackle the inflammation of the lymph node. Penicillin group of drugs are highly beneficial in treating this problem.
Yes, if there is any tooth or gum related problems, the sub-mandibular lymph node may enlarge.
