What Causes Swollen Eyelids With Pain?

default
Posted on Tue, 23 Dec 2014
Question: My eye is swollen, both eyelids, (like a black eye but no bruising). The bottom and corner of my eye nearest my ear has a clear gel like substance filling my eye. My vision is fine, there is only very minor pain. I took a Benadryl hoping that would help, because my nose is running a bit. And I assumed it was allergic but I haven't left the house all day. I am a 25 year old healthy male.

Brief Answer:
swollen eye lid with mild pain.

Detailed Answer:

I have seen the uploaded image. What you have got may be an allergic manifestation. You need not go out to get the allergy. This can be present in your house like pet or pollen in air. Food and drink can act as allergen as well.

Only thing you have not informed about itching.

You should start taking levocetrizine 5mg tablet daily and apply cromal eye drop 3times daily. Can take crocin 500mg tablet two times which will give relief from mild pain. Please get all this drugs prescribed by your doctor.

With this treatment you will get relief from eye as well as nasal problem. Clear gel like secretion suggest allergic manifestation. With this treatment you will be normal in 10 to 15days

It started off as an itchy eye, i applied eye drops like i normally would if i had something small in there. It felt like i had something in there but nothing surfaced. Within an hour my eye swelled and the gel like substance appeared. It hasnt itched since the gel and swelling appeared.

I dont recognize any of the drug names you listed, are they abilable OTC or by prescription? As i mentioned I took 2 benadryl tablets and used OTC eye drops. It has been an hour and half since i took 2 benadryl and the mild pain has disappeared, the swelling and gel persist though.

What is the clear gel substance? Is it mucus?

So you are saying it is allergic reaction and I have nothing serious to worry about?

Brief Answer:
allergic conjunctivitis.

Detailed Answer:
in my opinion it is allergic and nothing to worry. The secretion is not mucous. It is watery discharge as a allergic manifestation nothing serious to worry about.

The drugs recommended are levocetrizine 5mgt tablet, crocin which is paracetamol and cromal eye drop manufactured by cipla. In most of the countries these are available over the counter. Cromal eye drop is sodium chromo gly colate many other substitute are available. You can check with your local chemist.
