Brief Answer:
get it surgically removed.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HealthcareMagic.

The swelling if it is a cyst as told by your doctor, could be either sebaceous cyst or dermoid cyst.

There are benign swellings and will need surgical excision by a surgeon under antibiotic cover.

Its a opd procedure, done under local anaesthesia.

Dont drain it or rupture it by yourself as there are high risk of kelloid formation at that site.

Hope i have been helpful.

Hi,

You need to consult a surgeon. The excision is a minor procedure and can be done either in local anaesthesia or short sedation.

My xiphoid process is large and tender. If I lie on my back, it sticks out and is the size of a miss-shapen peach. It is tender to pressure. Is this anything I need to have examined? Is there something I can do besides taking NSAIDs, which I cannot take, to reduce the inflammation? Thank you!

My Xiphoid process is sore to touch and has moved to the left side and twisted a bit. It is tender to touch and may be a bit swollen. I have noticed an increase in gastric reflux and numbness in both hands when sleeping which may not be associated with the misshapen xiphoid.

I am a Flight Attendant and after work yesterday, later in evening, I noticed pain near xiphoid process. Also, I lifted a heavy box from Costco, up two flights of stairs. I didnt lift any particularly heavy luggage items, during flight, but was engaging in some pretty aggressive rearraning of pax luggage in overhead bins. Felt ok, when I got home, but suprisingly the pain increased til bedtime and was really bad during nite. Any suggestions! Claudia
