What Causes Swelling On Bridge Of Nose And Under Eyes After Cataract Operation?

default
Posted on Thu, 14 May 2015
Question: I had cataract surgery on both eyes last September. Since then, I see well. My problem is I feel swollen at the spot where my glasses pads used to hit on either side of my nose. It gets worse as the day goes on and spreads under my eyes. I have been to many doctors with no relief, including an ENT specialist and an orbital eye specialist. What could be causing this? I have ReStor lenses. Could glare be the problem? Any ideas and possible solutions would be appreciated.

Brief Answer:
nose pad pressure

Detailed Answer:
My dear,
Thanks for sending your query to us.
This a mechanical problem caused by the nose pads of your glass, if I gather correctly.
The solution lies in1) realigning the nose pads correctly so thatthey do not cause undue pressure or 2) changing your frame.
If you finally opt to change the frame it will be advised to use the new frame for some time before you put in the glasses in the frame so that you are sure that the problem is not repeated.

No. The Rest or lens are working. I do not need eye glasses. I am having this pressure where the pads would be if I were wearing glasses...which I am not. I do not know what is causing this pressure...and did you see a I have consulted with several specialists. I have had this discomfort since cataract surgery last September. Could the Rest or lenses be letting in too much light and the glare causing this?

My Dear,
Thanks for getting back to us.
so I did get a wrong impression that you were having the pain due to the glasses you were using.
The lenses are placed in the bag where yourooriginal natural lens was placed and this is 5-6mm.behind the front of eye. There may be an inflammation due to the lens though this is very rare and had it been so any of the doctors would have diagnosed it and these are vey high quality plastics which are very friendly to eye tissue
since the problem started after surgery it has to be surgery related, and after surgery there may be a infllamation so a trial of anti inflammatory drop/NSAID can be given and see the progress.

I am currently using Retain eye drops MCD. I have some dry eye but no swelling. Only swelling in my nasal lining. My eye glands are normal and my sinus es look fine on CAT scan. Could this be an allergy or a complication from the ReStor brand lens? I am so uncomfortable and don't know where to go next for help.
